November/December 2014 prayer letter

Dear Pastor and Church,                                November/December 2014

Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year

As we look back over 2014 we are blessed and thankful to the LORD for meeting so many needs. The Lord has opened doors and provided for us beyond our expectations. We are thankful to those who support us in Standing In The Gap. As we talk to missionaries they tell us how much a furlough relief ministry is needed and we count it a blessing that the LORD is using us to meet that need.

Upon our return home from Europe we were able to share our burden for the Standing In The Gap ministry. We spent some time with our children and grandchildren both in Florida and Tennessee.  Cathy was able to attend several ladies retreats and I had opportunity to preach in our state prison and saw one man saved.  We also dealt with our house that had been flooded due to a frozen water line. The kitchen was a total loss and there was a lot of damage throughout, but, it is now 90% repaired and the LORD has blessed in so many ways.

December marks several highlights in our spiritual life including the occasion of our 40th spiritual birthday. It was because of the burden of a faithful man and his heart for the bus ministry. I was ordained in 1991 and December 2007, a missionary approached us about helping his work while he was on furlough, Standing In The Gap was born.  We are so blessed!!

We are willing to go anywhere, at home or abroad and ready to ‘stand in’ for a missionary or pastor. If you know of someone who needs to come home for furlough or a church in need of an interim pastor, have them get in touch with us or our pastor, Bill G. Marshall.

Standing In The Gap for your missionaries,

As we go through the CHRISTmas season
and into the New Year take
time to remember the missionaries on the
foreign field. They are away from home and missing
parents, brothers and sisters, children and grandchildren.
Send them a card or an email and let them know
 you are praying for them.
Then pray for them.

Aug/Sept 2014 prayer letter

Dear Pastor and Church:                                              August/September 2014

Time has been flying along since our return from Europe in April. The Lord has given us opportunities to travel and preach and give testimony of what the Lord is doing with ‘Standing In The Gap’.  Cathy has had several opportunities to speak at different Ladies meetings since we arrived home. She was also able to go with the ladies of our church to Springfield, MO for a meeting this past weekend.

Jon and Emilie Rettig drove through St. Joseph before their return to the field and we were able to spend some time together over lunch. We are thankful for them and their faithful work to the Lord and folk in the Czech Republic.

We are continuing to work on the repairs on our house after we had frozen water lines and breaks while in Europe. We are waiting for kitchen counter tops and we still have lots of painting to do.

I had some outpatient surgery on August 8th the doctor clipped a muscle in the leg I had hip replacement on in 2008. I had an allergic reaction to some medication they used and that added a bit of recovery time. This procedure is supposed to reduce the constant pain that I have in that hip and the pain has lessened some and we are very thankful for that.

Pastor and church we are asking you to pray for an open door for us to stand in for a missionary who needs to go on furlough.  Feel free to call, email us or our pastor Bill Marshall. We have stood in for Jon Rettig on three different occasions, you may contact him at (rettig@missionpraha.org) in the Czech Republic and Adam McGeorge in Nauru (adam@mcgeorgemissions.info), we stood in for him for 11 months. We also have a ‘personal need’ and we ask that you pray for that if the LORD should bring it to mind.

Standing In The Gap for YOUR missionary,
Leo and Cathy Paine

Happy Birthday America!!!

Happy Birthday America...
What a blessing to live in the greatest
nation in the world.

We were blessed to have a few hours
with missionaries Jon and Emilie Rettig.
They are missionaries to the Czech Republic.
We 'stood in the gap' for them from January to April 2014.
They will be returning to the field of 20 years
at the end of the month. Our prayers
go with them as they go back to the church
and people they worked with all these years.
These are faithful folk.

We ask that you pray with us as we 'wait' on the LORD
for direction to our next field of service.
Trusting HIM! Proverbs 3:5-6
